The Importance of the Warm-Up
Get the most of your workouts by incorporating a proper warm-up. I always emphasize the importance of warm-up before starting any type of workout; circuit, conditioning or strength focused.
THE WHY?
- increase body and muscle temperature to support the next point
- work on the range of motion of the joints and surrounding tissues needed for the workout
- improve blood flow to the muscles
- mental preparation (creating a pre-workout routine to let the body know it's time to move!)
10 minutes total of:
- Mobility & Stability: improve the range of motion in the joint and surrounding tissues (bodyweight controlled movements and foam rolling)
- Activation: warm-up specific areas of the body relating to the subsequent program (i.e. for a Back Squat day: activate glutes, hips and core)
- Dynamic: Increase heart rate, body temperature and full body power
And BOOM! You’re warm and ready to go! If you need help with what a proper warm-up looks like, then let’s chat!
